Homeward Bound!!!

Well, we got a call from the hospital this morning that the girls are scheduled to come home this weekend!!! WOW! (about 1-2 weeks earlier than we expected) They are all feeding like champs. They haven't used their feeding tubes for over 24 hours. They did a bunch of tests as well that all came back normal--head ultrasounds, hearing tests, etc. They're healthy and ready to come home! The nurses told us from the beginning that it is very rare for triplets to come home together. Usually they send one home for a couple of days, then send the second and then the third. (Normally, they aren't all ready at the same time) The nurse this morning said that all of our girls must have collaborated and decided they wanted to come home together. Oh boy! The fun begins!

Maryn will have to come home on an apnea monitor. (very normal for preemies) She sometimes forgets to breathe when she is eating or overstimulated. The monitor lets us know we need to pick her up to stimulate her and remind her to breathe. Preemies grow out of this habit by 1 month after their due date at the latest. Just pray that all goes well at home with the monitor.

The girls have their car seat tests today and tomorrow, which they do need to pass in order to come home. They put each of the girls in their car seats for 1 hour to make sure they can tolerate sitting up for that long. If they can't, I think they send them home in a lay down car seat. Not quite sure on that one...I'll let you know after the test is complete.

It will be a busy couple of days for us getting ready for our little ones to come home! What a great way to celebrate the new year!

Friday Update

Happy Friday to everyone and Merry Christmas!
All of the girls are doing great! They're getting big and strong...we're almost to the 4 lb. mark! Yippee!
We are hoping to have them out of their isolettes by this weekend. They are all big enough to maintain their body temperature. They will move to big girl beds! (bassinets)
We've also started the nursing/bottling process. Which is good, cause they are not big feeding tube fans. I'm not sure if you can tell in the picture, but they have to have the sleeves of their outfits taped up (or socks taped over their hands) because they continue to pull out their feeding tubes. They're just saying...."Hey mom, we're ready to eat like big girls. Let's get this ball rolling!"
Yesterday, I gave Maryn her first bath in a tub. She was a little stinker. As soon as I took her diaper off she decided she had to go number 2 and pooped all over me. Then, she just looked up and smiled. (The joys of being a mom!) I thought since we had little girls rather than little boys, I was off the hook with getting peed/pooped on. Guess not! :)

3 Peas In A Pod

We got our first family pictures tonight! Leah is on the far left, Maryn is in the middle and Brynn is on the right. Maryn just finished dinner, so she was taking a snooze. What do you think? Could you tell them apart? :)

Brynn and Leah are up to their full feedings. Brynn is getting 32ml every 3 hours and Leah is getting 28ml every 3 hours. (Leah is a little bit smaller, so her full feeding isn't quite as large yet) Their milk is being fortified with extra calories, so we are hoping they will start to pick up the pounds!

Maryn will be up to her full feedings by tomorrow. She is currently getting 30ml every 3 hours, and it will go up to 32 ml at midnight.

All of the girls are off of their IV's. The little tubes in their noses are their feeding tubes. They have to take their feedings through tubes because they don't develop the suck/swallow/breathe reflex until they are 34-35 weeks. We're getting closer!

The doctor did tell us this weekend that he was able to hear Brynn's murmur again. Since it is not causing her any problems, we are not going to take any action on it right now. We are hoping it will close on it's own.

Prayer Requests: Please pray that the girls continue to tolerate their feedings and that Brynn's murmur would close without us having to intervene.

I can't believe the girls are almost 3 weeks old! We are getting so excited to bring them home. (Hopefully, by mid-January we will have a baby invaded house)

They are just so precious! We're thrilled parents! Thanks again for your prayers and support!

Time with Grandma and Grandpa!

Maryn, Brynn and Leah have gotten to enjoy some fun time with grandma and grandpa lately! Mom's been at home fighting a cold, so she hasn't been able to be at the hospital. (say a little prayer for quick healing) Grandma and Grandpa's are filling in spending time rocking the girls and singing them songs. The babies love spending special time with their grandparents!

All the girls are doing very well. They have restarted Maryn's feedings at about 2ml every 3 hours to "prime" her tummy. They will slowly continue to move up feedings from there. Brynn and Leah are handling their feedings well. Pray that the feedings continue to go smoothly.

Maryn is still having some apnea episodes, so please pray that those go away as well. The doctors said they are pretty normal up until about 33 weeks (we are at 32 weeks now), we just need them to stop before she is able to come home!

The Girls Have Moved

The girls were moved to the Special Care Nursery at Abbott last night at 10:30 pm.
They now have their own wing with in the nursery so we have a more peaceful and relaxing setting to sit in.
All 3 girls have started their feedings. The doctors decided to stop Maryn's feedings for a few days since she was not digesting all of it each time. They have said this is pretty normal and will start her on feedings again on Monday.
Leah's murmur seems to have closed completely.
Brynn's murmur is very faint and tough to hear, so it is close to being gone as well.
Now our little ladies just need to stay healthy, add weight and be able to keep their body temps up on their own.
Please continue to pray for the girls as they continue to grow. Pray that they are able to tolerate their feedings without any problems.

Brynn and Leah Meet Again!

Here is a photo from this morning where Ali got to hold Brynn and Leah together for the first time. Leah had a very confused look on her face and just stared at Brynn. The tube that you can see in their noses is the feeding tube that is run to their stomachs.

Wednesday Afternoon Update

I just heard from Ali down at Children's and the doctors are not recommending surgery at this point.
It sounds like Leah's murmur was very tough to hear, so hopefully it is closing.
Brynn's murmur is still loud but the x-ray confirmed that it is closing, just slowly.
They are going to start feedings this afternoon for both of them.
Maryn has moved her feedings up to 4 ml every 3 hours so she is progressing along well.
They are talking about moving to the Special Care Nursery next week.

Wednesday Update

Here is a quick update on each of the girls.

Maryn -

She is doing very well and has started her feedings of 2 ml every 3 hours. She is off of her oxygen and breathing room air without assistance. She had developed a pocket of air in her lungs but it looks like she is dealing with that on her own as it is getting smaller. She has closed her murmur completely. She is also off of her photo therapy as of now. The doctors are very happy with her status.

Brynn -

Brynn is still breathing room air on her own and doing well. She is off of photo therapy for now as well and gaining back the weight that she lost over the first few days. She has not been able to close her heart murmur so they are doing an x-ray this morning to decide if they will need to perform surgery this afternoon to close the hole or not.

Leah -

Leah is also breathing room air on her own and doing well. She has had a few episodes of forgetting to breathe, so they put her on the same meds as Maryn to assist her with remembering to breathe. Leah has also gained back the weight she lost in the first few days. She is also just like her sisters and off of photo therapy for now and doing well. She is also just like her sister Brynn and has not closed her heart murmur so they are going to do an x-ray on her this morning as well to decide if they will need to perform surgery.

The doctors have told us that all of this is very normal and in the grand scheme of things our girls are doing very well. Please pray that Leah and Brynn were able to close their murmurs over night and that surgery will not be necessary and they will be able to start their feedings like Maryn.

We will continue to update as we can, our Internet at home is not working right now so it has made updating the blog a little more difficult.

Update and Pictures

We spent most of yesterday down at Children's with the girls and they all looked great.

They are all breathing room air and off of oxygen.

All 3 of the girls have very sensitive skin, so they are getting some rashes from the tape that holds in the IV's and what have you. (That came from mom, she gets rashes from band aids, tape, etc as well.) The girls keep moving around and loosening up the IV's , so they have to find new locations for their lines every few days. Yesterday they put in Picc Lines for all 3 girls. These are just more permanent IV's so they won't have to prick the girls every other day trying to set an IV.

Maryn finally had her O2 removed and the heart murmur meds seemed to work for her so she should start feedings today. Brynn and Leah started a second round of murmur meds yesterday since the first round did not work for them. Please pray that this round works and we don't have to consider surgery. They aren't showing any other signs that the murmur is causing problems--it just isn't closing.

Please pray for Ali and I as we need to make decisions and watch our little angels go through this journey and as always their strength, health and growth.

December 1st Update

Well, today is Ali's homecoming day!

She will get to see her house and all of the changes that have happened while she has been on bed rest. When she went on bed rest it was 90 degrees outside and as she is heading home we are getting 10" of snow. Oh how time "flies!"

The girls are doing well, we were able to hold all of them yesterday for an hour or so each. The girls just steal your heart when they hold on tight--pretty strong for 3 lbs.

Each girl has a heart murmur that they have given them meds to help close. They will not be able to begin feedings until Wednesday now since the drugs are hard on their stomachs. So that means that they will be in the NICU until at least Wednesday. They need to start taking feedings before they will move them to the Special Care Nursery.

Please pray that the meds work and the murmur's close and stay closed and that they take to their feedings quickly so we can move them out of the NICU.

We will continue to update as things progress.

Thank you for all of the prayers, calls, flowers (the nurses are amazed with the flowers), visits, etc. They mean the world to us.

Mommy Update

Thanks to everyone for all of your prayers!

We're doing great! I am feeling exceptional considering I just had major surgery. :)
I am so thankful to be able to walk around and sit upright. (the little things in life)
I am still shocked that our girls are here.
I went into labor extremely quickly. There was no stopping it.
We were especially shocked because the FfN test said we had less than a .8% chance of delivering before December 4th. God had other plans.

The girls look great today. Brynn and Leah are off of their CPAP's (oxygen) and breathing room air. Maryn is still struggling a little bit to breathe, but overall, she is doing great! We are just so blessed! I am overwhelmed with joy! We are just so lucky to have 3 beautiful little girls. Thank you Lord! Please continue to pray for each of our babes as they grow and get stronger every day.

First Day

Thank you all for your prayers, calls, e-mails and flowers. They are so very much appreciated.

Ali is doing great, feeling good and starting to move around slowly. She got over to see the girls twice today at Children's.

I was able to go on rounds with the Dr while she checked out the girls; she just kept saying they look fabulous. She said that all 3 girls have mildly underdeveloped lungs so they need a little Oxygen for assistance. She also said that they typically will get a little worse before they get better, pray that we miss the getting worse part or that it is very minimal. The girls are very tired and sleep a lot. We are able to hold their hands, rub their backs, etc. while they are in the isolettes. Once they are off the oxygen we will be able to hold them and they will be moved out of the NICU and over to the special care nursery at Abbott to work on holding body temp and gaining weight.

We are so excited to be on to the next part of the journey and can't wait for you all to meet the Jonswold Triplets. They are gorgeous!

All 3 girls are brunettes right now with full heads of hair. Ali is already threatening to start dyeing them blond...

They Have Arrived!!!

We went into surgery at about 4:45am and by 5:01 am we had 3 daughters.

Baby A - Maryn Elizabeth - 3 lb 2 oz
Baby B - Brynn Campbell - 3 lb 2 oz
Baby C - Leah Marie - 2lb 14oz

All 3 are in the NICU at Children's for assistance with breathing.

Ali is doing really well and is in recovery.

Please continue to pray for the girls and Ali. The girls will be in the hospital for about 6 weeks.

30 1/2 Weeks

We checked in to Abbott this afternoon with some stronger contractions and they have admitted Ali. They put her on some stronger drugs and also gave her the first of 2 steroid shots to help develop the girls lungs more rapidly. At about 11pm they checked her cervix for the 2nd time today and it was beginning to dilate. They tried more drugs and said they would check again at midnight and if it enlarged we would start the delivery process. The midnight check came and she had dilated a little more but we were still holding strong-- more drugs. The 1 am check came and we were holding steady. It is now 3am and we are status quo, but it looks like we will deliver in the next couple of days. The 2nd steroid shot would be Wednesday at 3:30pm. Ali is tired but hanging in there. The contractions are every few minutes and painful. The girls are being troopers and hanging in there, even baby A who has been poked in the head 3 times for cervical checks.

I will update again when I get a chance.

Please continue to pray for the girls health, strength and lung development. Pray for Ali's strength and for the pending C-section.

With the journey we have had this could all be a test run.  Be back soon with an update--and maybe 3 girls names to announce!

Great 29 Week Appointment!!!

We went in this morning for our 29 week appointment. It was at 8:00 a.m., so it was a little bit of a push for me (since even getting dressed is a long process), but we got there.
They again did biophysical profiles on each of the girls, and they all passed! They're doing great! Little baby C is the spitfire already. She is soooo active. She is also curled up under my ribcage, which I am sure you can imagine isn't the most comfortable place she could be. She takes up all the room she wants on the top and squishes her sisters. :) Baby B is usually the first one to finish her biophysicals-overachiever. Baby A is on her own schedule and takes her time. She does it her way, but always gets it done. We have 3 different personalities developing already.
I am up a total of 51 pounds so far! They wanted me to gain a total of 60-70, so I am well on my way.
Probably the biggest news from today is that we got another negative Fetal Fibronectin test! (remember that is the test that indicates with 99.2% accuracy whether or not a woman will deliver in the next 2 weeks) With 2 more weeks under our belt, we will be almost to 32 weeks, which is our ultimate goal!!!
We are just so thankful to be at the place we are at. Praise God! Thank you all for your amazing support and prayers. I remember going on bed rest in August when December seemed like an eternity away. Seeing the snow fly gives me chills. Praying for the perfect December birthday for our amazing blessings!!!!

Since many of you have been asking what Ali has been doing since she has been on bed rest, I thought I would come up with some fun facts about Ali's bed rest.

28 1/2 Weeks!!!

We made it to 28 weeks! A huge goal for us! We had a doctors appointment this afternoon and they completed biophysical profiles on each of the girls. The kids passed with flying colors! Everybody is happy, healthy and growing well.
Our next goal is 30 weeks. Please continue to pray that the next couple of weeks go smoothly. We are so thankful for the support and prayers of all of our amazing friends and family.
Our ultimate goal will be 32 weeks for delivery. We praise God for every single day past 28...we are going to keep pushing forward!

27 1/2 Week Appointment

Another good appointment today! Everybody looks good! They did decide to switch my medication this week to a pump rather than a pill, so I have a little IV type needle in my leg that administers medication throughout the day. The pump seems to be good so far. I have only pulled the needle out of my leg once--ouch! :) (but I got it back in with no problem!)
We are almost to our first BIG goal of 28 weeks. Thank you God!
Next we start looking toward 30.
Next week we also start biophysical profiles, where they take a close look at each baby and check their movement and breathing motions, etc. I am excited to be at a point where we can start doing those! YAY! Please continue to pray that we stay stable and keep packing on the weeks. Every week past 28 is wonderful!

26 1/2 Week Appointment

Long day at the doctors office today filled with good news! The babies look great! They are all right around 2 lbs and growing well. Little baby "C" has caught up with her sisters! (thank you for all of your extra prayers for her!) All of their fluid levels are fantastic! They also checked my cervix and the stitch looks great! It is strong and we couldn't ask for more. The doctor said my cervix looked better than most with cerclages at 26 weeks. (Fun to hear good news about that cervix! YAY!)
We were thrilled to have such a great appointment. I have gained 40 lbs to date. (probably the only time in my life I will brag about that!)
Night time is getting a little interesting around here. I probably actually sleep 3 hours a night (comfortable is not a word I would use to describe my situation) but I am thankful to be getting bigger every day.

Fetal Fibronectin Test

Yesterday, I was feeling a little bit of cramping so Peter and I decided to run down to Abbott to have it checked out. Everything looked good! They did a test called a Fetal Fibronectin test, which tells you with 99.2% accuracy if you have a chance of delivering in the next 2 weeks. Basically, if the doctor finds no fFN, there is very little chance (less than 1%) of you delivering within a 2 week time frame. Our results were negative!!! No fFN! We are very thankful because 2 weeks will get us to that big 28 week goal!! (Though we are still shooting for 30+ weeks) One day at a time.
A cerclage can sometimes cause a false positive test, so we were thrilled to get a negative result. What a blessing!!! I had a quick ultrasound today and all of the girls look great. They have lots of fluid and room to grow. Baby A is a thumb sucker. :) We have a complete ultrasound on Thursday where they will estimate size and weight. We'll post an update after that appointment.

First Pumpkin

In the spirit of Halloween Ali and her mom decided to paint a pumpkin for the girls.

I will let the photo speak for itself.

Ali and I are going to carve pumpkins today for the family. Last year we had 2 pumpkins and this year we will have 5 pumpkins on the front steps. We are going to be a large target for the teenage boys in the neighborhood.

We will update again after our appointment on Thursday.

Week 25 Appointment

Praise God for another good appointment! The babies look great! They were having a gab session today...all facing each other, kicking and playing.
My cervix is still holding tight at the stitch. Please pray that it continues to hold strong!
Everything is looking good. We have a big appointment next Thursday. They will take another very close look at the babies and estimate their size and weight. Pray that they continue to grow healthy and strong.
We are on the countdown to week 28 which is a HUGE milestone for us. Pray that the next couple of weeks go smooth and quickly. We are so thankful for all of your thoughts and prayers. We are blessed with wonderful friends and family!

It's Flu Shot Season

Well, my arm is sore today since I got my annual flu shot as directed by our doctors.

Our doctors have told us that we will need to make sure that anyone that is around our house and/or kids this winter through the flu and cold season will need to be healthy since the kids will have weak immune systems. Even though getting a flu shot does not rule out other colds, etc. our doctors have told us to make sure our family and friends get flu shots as a start.

I was promised by the guy at the Minute Clinic that my arm soreness will go away quickly...

Holding Tight

We had our weekly appointment today and it was another encouraging hour with the doctors.

The stitches are holding tight, all 3 babies are active and growing. We saw one of the girls practicing breathing, which is great. We are all still very optimistic that we can make it to 30 weeks, praise the Lord!

We got the hospital bed late last week so it has made life a little easier for Ali getting up and down all of the time.

We have another complete ultrasound in 2 weeks where they will check out all the girls in depth again for breathing, size, activity level, etc. At that point we will be at almost 27 weeks and heading into the final weeks before our 3 little angels bless us with their presence.

We have finally painted both rooms up stairs to start the process of changing from Ali's "dorm room" to the nursery and changing/rocking chair room. We are getting close to completing the basement so there is an extra bathroom that I can use now that we will have 4 females looking for bathroom time.

Thank you all again for all of the meals, calls, visits, etc. It is fun to see everything pop on the calendar!

Wednesday Update

We had our weekly appointment today and we got great news again, praise the Lord.

All 3 girls are looking great and the stitches are doing their job and holding tight. They do not want to admit Ali to the hospital yet since she is doing so well at home and there is less chance of infection at home.

Ali is looking more and more pregnant each day and with that it becomes harder and harder to get up off the couch each time to go to the bathroom. So they are looking in to getting us a hospital bed for the house so she can raise her self up and down easily with less strain on her body. Who knew all of this stuff was available? We will take it if we can get it!

We continue with the twice a day monitoring and the twice a week home visits by the nurses to keep us busy.

Continued thanks for all of the meals, calls, e-mails, prayers, etc. we can't express our appreciation enough.

A Busy Week

Well, of the past 8 days we have spent 5 of them at Abbott. We have become "frequent fliers." Ali had a good appointment on Wednesday. The stitches are holding tight and her cervix has sustained its length. The girls are all weighing around a pound each and growing strong, baby C is the smallest at 15 ounces and Baby B is the biggest at 1 lb. 3 ounces. Ali was still feeling a little crampy with contractions, so she is now being monitored 2 times a day over the telephone.
You have to love technology! She wears the monitor for an hour and then plugs it into the phone line and calls the nurse hotline. The information is transmitted, and then the nurses call and let us know what they see and let us know if we need to get in the car to head to the hospital, or if we are okay to stay at home.

We are continuing to hold out for early December.

Hopefully the next 8 days will provide some more restful days and nights here at home.

Home Sweet Home

We are back home again after a long weekend at Abbott. The doctors won't admit until 24 weeks. (viability)

Ali is still feeling some contractions, but the doctors still felt confident in sending us home. We will now have home monitoring twice a week on top of our weekly appointment. We will be continuing with bed rest and continuing to pray that the stitches hold. The girls turned 22 weeks today.

Change of Plans

Well, Ali went in again this morning since she was feeling some irritability and contractions. The doctor's measured her cervix again and it was holding tight at the stitch, so they hooked her up to the contraction monitors and they were seeing what she was feeling. So they admitted her to Abbott this morning for at least the next few days and possibly the duration which we are now hoping for 30 weeks or November 25th.

Ali is doing well at the hospital, currently they have her in a standard Labor and Delivery room and will hopefully move her to a long-term room tomorrow. She will then have a fridge and shower as well as a cot for me!

Please continue to pray for Ali and her comfort in the ever so comfortable hospital beds, pray that the stitches to hold and the girls to continue to grow and stay healthy.

We will continue to up date this site, when we know what her room phone number will be we will post it here.

Appointment Update

Ali and the girls had another appointment today and the girls are doing well still.

The doctor did say that Ali's cervix had shortened and was now being held shut by the stitch they inserted a little over a month ago now. (There is no cervix left, just the stitch) Ali was not having any contractions which is great news, but we are concerned about the shortening again. We are hopeful that the stitch will hold strong and that her cervix will gain some length back again this week.

So our plan now is to continue with the bed rest and continue to pray that the stitches hold strong and that the babies hold on until early December. Please continue to pray for Ali as she continues bed rest and for the girls that they find a way to stay inside until December.

Thank you for all of your support and we will update again after our appointment next week. Our appointment next week is another complete ultrasound so we should have some good shots of the girls to post again.

Thumbs Up!

Well, we have a few more photos of each girl for their baby books. They were all pretty normal profile pictures, arms, legs, etc. But in one photo Baby "C" (our little angel with the 2 vessel cord) is seen here giving us the thumbs up from inside. So she knows we have all been praying for her and she just wants to say back everything is cool guys just keep laying on that couch mommy!

We also took a quick photo of Ali on one of her trips from the couch back to the bed for the night. This is taken at 21 weeks with 1 month of bed rest down and 3 more to go!

We have another appointment (field trips for Ali) on Wednesday, so we will update the site after that appointment again.
