Tomorrow, our kids will be 16 months old. For most of their lives we've gone out of our way (probably on the verge of crazy) to keep them healthy. I have a sign on the door to our home asking everyone who comes in to wash their hands during cold and flu season; at any given moment I have 3 bottles of hand sanitizer in my purse; I refuse to use shopping carts cause the ONLY time I brought the kids into Babies R Us without a stroller they got
croup.
This week, my friends, I remembered why.
1 sick kid is tough. 2 makes you more thankful than you have ever been for your spouse. 3...well, 3 makes you wonder if it is REALLY that weird for a kid to wear latex gloves and a
face mask for the next couple of years.
This morning everyone was feeling a bit better and we were in serious need of some necessities, so we took at quick trip to Target in the stroller. The girls have just learned the word "Hi" and understand what it means. They wave and greet everyone they meet. I MEAN EVERY SINGLE PERSON! I don't think we missed saying "hi" to anyone at Target. Brynn would see us coming up on someone, wave her hand and say "Hi." If that person didn't respond in what she thought was a timely fashion, she'd say it LOUDER "HI!" After she got her hello, she'd smile as we passed by and say "Bye." Oh my social little girl. You crack me up! You definitely demand attention!
Other new happenings at our house:
-The girls are working on using spoons and forks
-They've learned to say baby, book, Reese (our dog), puppy, hi, bye, ball, night-night, mama and
dada (The girls know what each of these things mean)
-The girls can tell you where their nose is and where their tummy is.
-"If you're happy and you know it" is their favorite song, and they even know when to clap their hands and stomp their feet.
-They ask "what's that?" and point to what they are asking about maybe a million times a day. (I'm already dreading the WHY? phase!)
-They are dancing machines (I'll have to get some new video) and they often try to jump (also hilarious!)
Every day I am overwhelmed by the things they are learning. So far, I'd say 16 months is the hardest age. 3 independent little girls running in 3 different directions. I just do my best to keep up. We ARE busy, and we ARE blessed!
